Green IT at the University of Regensburg - Our activities

The University of Regensburg is one of two project leaders in the Bavaria-wide Green-IT project, which was initiated by the Digitalverbund Bavaria (external link, opens in a new window) and is funded by the StMWK.

The BayZeN Green IT working group (external link, opens in a new window) was founded to ensure an exchange on the topic of Green IT. Thanks to the good cooperation with the Green Office (external link, opens in a new window), Climate Protection Management and the Sustainability Council of the University of Regensburg (external link, opens in a new window) and with external support, such as the Regensburg Energy Agency (external link, opens in a new window), the university is becoming more sustainable step by step.

The University of Regensburg Computer Center has also set itself the goal of designing sustainable IT products and IT services. In order to achieve this goal, efforts are being made in the areas of the computer centre, users and procurement.

Machine room

Our measures:

  • Cooling as efficiently as possible
  • Consolidation of the servers
  • Virtualisation of the servers
  • New build to the best standards

To help us with this sustainable utilisation, why don't you put your servers in the machine room?

Employees and students

Our measures:

  • Printer consolidation
  • Loan devices
  • Switching off Cip pools overnight

To use the devices as sustainably as possible, take a look at the Green IT catalogue of measures (external link, opens in a new window).

Procurement and disposal

Our measures:

  • Refurbishment of old devices
  • Donation of old devices to the computer donation centre
  • Purchase of certified devices

To purchase certified devices, buy them via our webshop (external link, opens in a new window).

To enable efficient handling of your old devices, give them to your IT advisor or hand them in at the service desk.
