Holder of the Chair of Real Estate Finance

One focus of the Chair of Real Estate Finance in research and teaching is the characteristics of real estate as an asset class. In addition to direct investments, this includes in particular indirect investments via open-ended property funds or real estate stock corporations or REITs. Another focus is on the financing of real estate investments and their securitisation.

Training objectives

In line with the broad range of courses offered by the Institute of Real Estate Economics, the Chair aims to achieve a clear focus. The aim is to provide graduates with a sound methodological education that is geared towards the requirements of property specialists for companies in the financial sector.


About the person

Steffen Sebastian holds the Chair of Real Estate Finance at the IRE|BS International Real Estate Business School and is Director of the Centre for Finance at the University of Regensburg and Research Associate at the Centre for European Economic Research (ZEW).

Professor Sebastian studied business administration at the University of Mannheim and ESSEC, France. After completing his doctorate in Mannheim and his habilitation at the University of Frankfurt, he was appointed to the University of Regensburg in 2006. His research focuses on indirect property investments, property indices, property derivatives and asset allocation. He is co-editor of the European Journal of Real Estate Research and the German Journal of Property Research as well as head of the "Indirect Investments" working group of the gif Gesellschaft für Immobilienwirtschaftliche Forschung e.V. (Society for Real Estate Management Research).
