Work in the Lab

Within the fields of Behavioural and Molecular Neurobiology and Neuroimmunology the following projects are currently available for Bachelor/Master thesis, Dissertations, or for Zulassungsarbeit.


Topics:

  • Neuroendocrine basis of social fear (Mus musculus; Rattus norvegicus)
  • Selective manipulation of local gene-expression in the brain: effects on aggression, social cognition and social behaviour (Rattus norvegicus)
  • Neuronal regulation of maternal care: link to mom’s anxiety (Rattus norvegicus)
  • Chronic psycho-social stress: effects on immune parameters (Mus musculus)
  • Psycho-social stress effects on brain circuitries involved in anxiety and depression (Mus musculus)
  • Neuropeptide-mediated intracellular signalling in distinct brain regions: link to anxiety behaviour
  • Knocking out oxytocin: consequences on cell activity, social and sexual behaviour, and stress susceptibility (Mus musculus)
  • Gene expression profiling via cDNA array in the context of stress and anxiety

Bachelor / Master/ PhD

  1. Students interested in a Bachelor Thesis - Studenten, die sich für ein Bachelor-Thema interessieren:
    The group welcomes bachelor-students who wish to do their bachelor work.  Please apply at least 3 months in advance.

  2. Students interested in a Master Thesis or Zulassungsarbeit - Studenten, die sich für eine Master- oder Zulassungsarbeit interessieren:
    The group welcomes a limited number of Master students and students for Zulassungsarbeit. Please apply at least 3 months before the anticipated starting date.

  3. Students interested in a Ph.D. Thesis - Studenten, die sich für eine Dissertation interessieren:
    The group will accept a limited number of Ph.D. students with a Master in Biology, Biochemistry or from the Elite Masters Programme. Highly motivated students who have done their Master Thesis within the group are preferred, but applicants from outside are also welcome.
    It takes approximately 3 to 3.5 years for the completion of a Ph.D. (Dr. rer. nat.) provided that the student fully concentrates on his work.
