The course deals with empirical approaches in macroeconomic analysis. Topics include theories and applications of the term structure of interest rates, the Taylor rule, money demand and the Phillips curve. Techniques of time series econometrics are introduced as relevant methodology, covering dynamic single equation modelling, non-stationarity, vector autoregressive processes and cointegration. In computer exercises accompanying the lecture, economic and econometric principles are combined in empirical studies.
This course provides the first essential toolkit for a better understanding of current research work and for carrying out your own empirical analyses. It is the basis for further courses such as seminars.
