Welcome to the homepage of the Chair of Production Management

Professor Dr. Justus Arne Schwarz and the team of the Chair of Production Management address design and control problems in modern production systems. A crucial challenge of production management in research and practice is digitalization. Accounting for new technologies, known under the term Industry 4.0, is key for successful production management. In research as well as teaching, business decisions are modeled as optimization problems and addressed with quantitative Business Analytics approaches to obtain managerial insights.

Guest lecture by the BMW Group: AI for Quality Inspection in Production

As part of the Predictive Analytics for Production Systems lecture, Philipp Herz and his team from the BMW Group delivered a compelling guest lecture on the topic AI for Quality Inspection in Production.

During the session, students gained insights into the diverse applications of artificial intelligence in manufacturing processes, particularly for ensuring product quality. Philipp Herz and his team shared practical examples from BMW's production environment, showcasing how AI-driven solutions are employed to detect defects and enhance overall efficiency. In addition, real-world challenges encountered during implementation, including data quality and scaling of AI projects, were discussed.
